The Pinckneyville City Lake is a 190 acre lake located north of Pinckneyville on Illinois State Route 127. Paved roads guide you west from the highway to the lake facilities which include asphalt parking lot, concrete boat launch ramp and dock, a handicapped fishing pier and reservable, handicapped accessible picnic pavilions located at the hilltop and lakeside. Other picnic areas with tables and charcoal burners dot the acreage. Handicap accessible restroom facilities are also available. This lake is a fisherman's delight. An 18-inch, one bass daily size limit on largemouth bass is a rule for this 10-horsepower limit lake, but you may find nearly half of the bass in excess of legal size per DNR reports. The lake also has catfish, crappie, bluegill, and other fish species. Boats are welcome but must adhere to the "no wake" rule. The lake is under DNR Regulation. The are no camping spaces at the lake. Call 618-357-5214 for information.
Many local citizens know the Pinckneyville City Park as the Perry County Fairgrounds. But in truth the "Fairgrounds" is owned and maintained by the City of Pinckneyville. The City Park offers playground equipment, a six-tenths mile asphalt walking path, baseball and softball diamonds, picnic pavilions, basketball, roller blade and tennis courts, and a swimming pool. Restroom facilities are on site. The City Park has five pavilions and the exhibition hall for rent as well as several camping spaces with water and electric hookup available.
The park is home to many events including demolition derbys, the Perry County Fair, Family Night in the Park, two annual American Thresherman Association shows, an Auto Parts Swap Meet, and much more. Call 618-357-5214 for information and pavilion/camping space reservations.
Named in honor of former Pinckneyville Mayor, Jake Bender, the Bender Municipal Swimming Pool annually opens Memorial Day weekend and closes near Labor Day. The pool is open to the public and is located at the intersection of County Road and Fairground Road at the Southeast corner of the City Park. The facility is handicap accessible, offering shower facilities, swimming lessons, water aerobics sessions, a water slide and concessions.
The pool is available for rental for swim parties. Private pool parties are held in the evening from 8:30 pm-10:30pm and must be scheduled 1 week in advance. Pool rental is $100. Pool passes are not valid for private parties.
Beginning June 1, 2016 you may contact the Pool Manager at 618-357-5626 for more information on purchasing a pool pass, schedule a party, or to enroll for swim lessons and aerobics.
