| The
Pyramid
State Park is just three short miles from downtown Pinckneyville.
The park
consists of heavily forested hills and many lakes and ponds. Southern
Illinois University formerly used 924 acres for research. Additional
acquisitions have brought the total acreage to nearly 3,178 acres
which includes more than 350 acres of water. An additional 3,500 acres
of leased lands provides hunting opportunities by permit only. Pyramid
gets its name from a coal mine that once existed here. |
